For our pilot test, we asked fellow colleagues to take the survey and to provide us with their feedback (the level of difficulty of the questions and whether or not anything needed to be clarified.) After making necessary changes, we asked all DePaul University undergraduate students enrolled in our HCI201 class to take the survey. The survey was taken by approximately 27 participants and is an electronic survey (via Survey Monkey) which was taken during class time. The sampling method was done according to convenience and was most certainly confidential with informed consent. The following appears at the beginning of the survey in order to inform students of what they are participating in and to abide by standards for safegaurding the rights of human subjects:

You are being asked to participate in a research study being conducted by Mallory Kuklinski, Kristen Folkes and Luai Fakhouri at DePaul University. We are asking you because we are trying to learn more about student's usage of Google versus DePaul's online library database in doing research. This study will take about 10 minutes of your time. If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to answer an online questionnaire. The questionnaire will include questions about your major, year, GPA, college and research habits. You can choose not to participate. There will be no negative consequences if you decide not to participate or change your mind later. If you have questions about this study, please contact our professor, Dr. Linda Knight at lknight@cdm.depaul.edu . If you have questions about your rights as a research subject, you may contact Susan Loess-Perez, DePaul University’s Director of Research Protections at 312-362-7593 or by email at sloesspe@depaul.edu.
